All Things Are A Go For Atlantic City’s Polercoaster
Move over Kingda Ka, a new coaster is about to take the World’s Tallest Roller Coaster title!
In 2017, “Skyscraper” is scheduled to debut at 570 feet tall. It will feature the worlds tallest inversion just before the coasters first drop at the rides maximum height. Joshua Wallack, a Florida developer, also dreamed of taking this vertical coaster design to Atlantic City, New Jersey. So that’s just what he did…
After months of waiting for approvals and clearances, the Polercoaster design received approval from the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority in New Jersey! Although the design is not taller than “Skyscraper“, it will still stand at a thrilling 350 ft tall. The coaster trains will be 2 rows of 4 seats, thrilling 8 riders per car. The through-put is estimated at about 1000 riders per hour.
The Polercoaster will be constructed at the same location that was once home to the famous Sands Casino which closed in 2006. The attraction will include some nightlife with features like a restaurant, a full bar, a food court, video games, and retail shops. The entire attraction has a small design footprint of around 52,000 square feet. Wallack said the project will be at least partly financed by Chinese investors through the federal government’s EB-5 Visa program, which grants green cards to foreigners who invest in the United States. His goal is to have this attraction open by Memorial Day weekend of 2018.
The Polercoaster isn’t the only proposed amusement ride coming to Atlantic City. A 200-foot observation wheel, hoping to attract roughly 50,000 riders a month, is being built at the Steel Pier. It’s estimated that it will cost about $14 million with partial funding coming from the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority. Look for the wheel to open later this year.
Hopefully this project finally takes off… we would love to ride the tower! We’ll have the latest on this new attraction as more develops, so stay tuned and follow our social accounts!
