Carowinds Adding Another New Attraction in 2016 #WaterYouDoing2016
Carowinds is preparing to reveal their next big attraction! Fans are all speculating, but we have a pretty good assumption of what is being installed…

All hints point towards a new… waterslide complex. A previous Carowinds application for incentives from the city of Charlotte mentioned a $2.5 million waterslide as a part of the park’s future expansion. Carowinds sent out invitations to an Aug. 27 event called “The Big Splash Press Conference“. which is loaded with water analogies such as:
Carowinds has been “harboring” a secret. The twitter hashtag they been using is #WaterYouDoing2016. “Show us your biggest splash,” is what the invitation says. The theme park will announce “a treasure you’re “shore” to love.”
The design of the rumored six new waterslides being added to Carowinds’ waterpark matches up perfectly with the waterpark addition that was just installed at Kings Dominion, Dorney Park, and just last week announced for Kings Island.
We expect he new slides will be similar to the ones at Kings Island which sit atop a 65-foot tall complex. At Kings Island, Guests will climb inside an Aqua-Launch chamber where they will wait anxiously for the floor to drop out from underneath their feet, sending them into a high-speed, almost vertical free fall through a series of flat loops and S-curves in a translucent flume. The slide tower at Kings Island also features a slide that will send riders twisting and spiraling an enclosed chute featuring four intense 360-degree loops across 449 feet of slide before they’re released out into a pool of water and dueling 337-foot long tube slides that zip riders through an enchanting series of drops and turns. This is very similar to the complexes that already went into Kings Dominion and Dorney Park. So we foresee something very similar at Carowinds.
A blueprint was leaked just the other day of what the slide complex at Carowinds will look like. The tower will be right in the area of where the former Thunder Road lift hill is.
Aside from the six new waterslides, We expect Carowinds to change the name of the water park to Carolina Harbor, as this was recently trademarked by Cedar Fair. there is also mention of adding a separate outside entrance to the waterpark and a new wave pool that looks similar in size to the existing Bondi Beach wave pool that was added in 2008. Beside the wave pool, the blueprints show an addition of two large and two small volleyball courts.

Now, one might say why in the world does Carowinds need three wave pools? Well, their current smaller wave pool is on the blueprint as being removed and the location turned into a kids area with a new play structure.

Kings Dominion has a kids play structure called Splash Island, so this will most likely be very similar. Below is a photo of what the one at KD looks like.

Carowinds, which straddles the Carolinas border off Interstate 77 south of Charlotte, is in the middle of a $50 million-plus expansion and renovation. The first big announcement was Fury 325, the 95-mph giga coaster that the park unveiled in March.

The expansion attracted about $1 million in incentives from Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.
The overhaul involves a two-year construction project in which owner Cedar Fair Entertainment is seeking to boost Carowinds’ yearly attendance to 2.5 million, up from the estimated 2014 total of 1.9 million.

Carowinds is set to make an announcement on August 27th, which is only a few more days.. BUT, we will go out on a limb and just say next month’s announcement will certainly involve a new waterslide… but as with anything, It’s only a rumor until it is officially announced by the park!
Is this the type of announcement you were hoping for? Or do you think it will enhance their waterpark? Tell us what you think in the comments below or on our socials!
