Cedar Point Unleashes Valravn in 2016! New Dive Coaster
The day has finally arrived and the rumors were totally true! Today, we attended a invite only media event at Cedar Point, the pride of Sandusky, OH, where they announced that in 2016, they will indeed be getting a world class, record-breaking dive coaster named Valravn (Val-RAY-Ven)!
This will be the 18th coaster to grace the Lake Erie peninsula when the ride opens on May 7, 2016. We told you about the patent trademark and we told you about leaked designs from earlier this year and before too long #CP2016 was an open secret. This will also be a commemorative coaster for Bolliger & Mabillard, who is manufacturing the ride, as this will be the 100th coaster they have built in their company’s history.
This partnership between the 145 year old park and the swiss coaster manufacturer will once again be fruitful with new things coaster lovers haven’t seen before. The train seats are eight across and are 24 passenger, floorless trains which feature cozy over the shoulder restraints with interlocking seatbelts and are similar in design to the park’s GateKeeper scream machine. Whether you have a Fast Lane pass or not, the ride will move a lot of riders per hour. The park says Valravn will fly around about 1,200 riders per hour! Guests must be 54 inches or taller to ride.
Here are the 10 World Record Stats on Valravn:
- Tallest Dive Coaster at 223 Feet
- Fastest Dive Coaster at 75 MPH
- Longest Dive Coaster at 3,415 Feet
- Most Inversions on a Dive Coaster with 3 inversions
- Highest Inversion on a Dive Coaster at 165 Feet
- Longest Drop on a Dive Coaster at 214 Feet
- Most Roller Coasters at one park that are taller than 200 feet with 5 coasters
- Most rides at one amusement park with 72 of them
- Most steel roller coaster track at one amusement park with 52,125 feet or 9.9 miles
- Most roller coaster track at one amusement park with 60,110 feet or 11.4 miles
What makes coaster freaks intrigued by a ride, regardless of their taste in thrills, is what stats it has. For Valravn, there are numbers that’ll show it’ll be worth the ride and excitement being built up. The evil bird coaster will not only boast 3,415 feet of track but will also have a 223 foot tall Lift Hill, 214 foot drop length, 90 degree angle of descent, 45 degree angle of holding brake. This will be only the third dive coaster in the United States as the other two are at Busch Garden parks; Valravn will last 3 minutes and 23 seconds in total ride time.
The introduction of Valravn is a first for the amusement park industry on many fronts, including the exciting virtual reality experience. -Jason McClure (pictured left), General Manager of Cedar Point
In addition to this exciting attraction coming to Cedar Point, they’ve also launched a cutting edge virtual reality experience for guests to enjoy before getting on the ride. The park is using 3D virtual reality to introduce Valravn with 360-degree views of the ride experience, complete with a view of the park around it. The Cedar Point VR app can be downloaded in Apple’s App Store and the Google Play Store.
The corresponding Valravn VR Viewers can be purchased at cedarpoint.com/Valravn, which is used to get the full experience of the virtual ride. While at Cedar Point during Halloweekends this fall, you can take a peek at the area where Valravn will be built and have a chance to use the Valravn vending machine, where everyone is a winner!
Each user must have a Twitter or Instagram account. Once logged in, as you’re at the machine, there’s a specific phrase you have to tweet or post on Instagram that the machine will recognize and after it’s posted, a Cedar Point voucher will dispense. The prizes vary from discounts on merchandise to possibly a 2016 Cedar Point Season Pass! This is another example of social media and technology innovations being used to promote the latest and greatest from the flagship park of Cedar Fair.
In the comments below and on our social media channels, tell us what you think of Valravn and all of the technologies being used to promote the ride. Did the rumors convince you or were you not going to be fooled? Keep it locked with Coaster Nation for all the latest updates, news and notes!
