Video: Dollywood To Add Inverted Coaster – 8 New Attractions in 2019.
Dollywood is expanding their park in a big way for the 2019 season. According to documents submitted to the Pigeon Forge Planning Commission, Dollywood is planning to add a 5 acre expansion behind Thunderhead for the 2019 season.
Crews are already developing five acres of property on the Dollywood campus for the expansion that includes 8 new attractions along with a new restaurant.
From the documents, we can make out what appears to be a swinging pirate ship ride, a coaster, and a few other potential attractions. Below is a document indicating a pirate ship attraction.
The plans for the new roller coaster are an exact match of Orkanen at Fårup Sommerland park in Denmark. That coaster being a Vekoma 453 m model—reaching a height of 64 feet and speeds excess of 46 mph.
This document shows the clearance envelope for new coaster.
The site plan approved by the planning commission covers details such as storm water drainage and sediment and erosion control. The plan approved does not give specifics on buildings.
When Dollywood officials were asked about the development, they said:
“Dollywood is consistently working to expand and improve our parks and resorts. We do not have anything official to announce at this time. Dolly will announce future plans for the Dollywood Company later in the year.”
WBIR 10 News was on site to check out the new developments.
The plans for the expansion are similar in scope to the 2015 Fireman’s Landing expansion at Silver Dollar City. That expansion added an astonishing 10 attractions to Silver Dollar City—the highlight being the Firefall Drop Tower.
Dollywood opens for the 2018 season on March 18th. For tickets and more information, visit the official Dollywood website by clicking here.
