Fun Spot Orlando May Finally Be Adding Long Rumored Waterpark
For many years, Fun Spot in Orlando has planned on expanding by building a waterpark. In 2011, plans were thrown around for a potential waterpark, but nothing came of the concept.
Recently, the park has started teasing over social media of work being done at the corner of the park near the Gator Spot exhibit. The size of the land being excavated is nearly an acre.
While hopes were raised that this could be a record-breaking White Castle, it seems that the park has much bigger plans. According to permits filed with the City of Orlando, Fun Spot has filed for the construction of a INTERACTIVE WATER FEATURE which is described as: “AC-3/SP – CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW INTERACTIVE WATER FEATURE (IWF) IN THE EXISTING AMUSEMENT PARK PROPERTY”. While the permit is listed on as hold, it seems like that information is outdated due to the large amount of work being done on the excavation site.
Since the project is listed as a building project, it is likely that this will involve a vertical structure. Regarding what the new attraction is, it seems that it may be a slide and play tower, a staple of many water parks across the world. Concept art released three years ago showed off a similar attraction in nearly the same place as the current work site.
Although it seems very likely that the park may be adding a waterpark, nothing is official until confirmed by the park. So until then, take this hypothesis with a grain of salt.
In other news, Fun Spot announced a a five-year partnership with Florida Citrus Sports Stadium. The park is now the official theme park for Florida Citrus Sports, its bowl games, and Camping World Stadium. The five-year partnership was announced Wednesday.
