New Amusement Park Coming to Alabama – Lake City Amusement Park
Crews have broken ground on Guntersville Alabama’s first amusement park!
Just off of Highway 431 near Lowes in Guntersville, a small new amusement park called “Lake City Amusement Park” is set to open in April of 2016.
In a recent interview with local Guntersville news, Lake City Amusement Marketing Director, Jay Velez said:
“We’ll have about 35 rides here, so a pond, a splash pad for the kids to play and get cool in the summertime, picnic areas with an amphitheater”.
The park is being built in 3 phases. Phase one will be the rides, concessions, and games. Phase two will be a water park opening up in April 2017, and phase three will be an RV park. The park map below shows where each phase will go.
The rides at Lake City will be more carnival style opposed to traditional theme park rides. A pirate ship, cliff hanger glider, a ferris wheel, fireball, and a roller coaster are all in the plans. Fireball is the “coasters” Six Flags put in their parks last year. The footprint for the “roller coaster” going in at block 8 on the map looks like a possible wild mouse size, which would be fitting for the park.
This is the first amusement park for the company based out of Phenix City, Alabama. Valez said the location and community just seemed like the right place to go, so they are giving it a shot. Although the pricing isn’t set, he did say the company is aiming for a price in the range of 20 to $25 for general admission.
“It’s a destination where you can have your birthday parties, have a lot of fun, plan any kind of event you want and come and enjoy yourself”.
Several rides have already arrived at the park including the ferris wheel and also “Frenzy“, which is a giant swing ride that is the first of it’s kind in the country.
This sounds like an interesting project that we are excited to follow, especially the waterpark and RV phases. Hopefully we will be able to stop by and catch up with all the happenings sometime next month!
