Skull Island: Reign of Kong is Now Open at Universal Orlando Resort
Guests and mega-fans gathered at Universal’s Islands of Adventure to celebrate the official opening of Universal Orlando’s newest mega attraction, Skull Island: Reign of Kong. After the fire filled event, it was finally announced that the ride is no longer soft operating, KONG IS OFFICIALLY OPEN!
Skull Island: Reign of Kong brings the next generation of the King Kong legend to life on an unprecedented scale. The adventure begins as guests are transported deep into a mysterious world, where their mission is to discover creatures of unknown origin with the 8th Wonder Expedition Company, the research team leading the excursion. After braving ancient temple ruins and encountering hostile natives, they board a massive 40-foot-long, 17-ton expedition vehicle to navigate the increasingly foreboding terrain.
The specially designed expedition vehicle (as seen in this video), operates on a completely trackless ride system, takes guests deeper into the ominous island, where they soon find themselves in the midst of a brutal struggle between beasts of unimaginable size and ferocity. Then, as those creatures turn on the expedition, there is an even more enormous, earth-pounding presence. It is Kong. Towering nearly three stories tall, he is so close that you can feel his breath and sense his emotion. But is he friend or foe?
Staying true to Universal’s over the top scenic design, the creative team went all out on Kong using state of the art technology! Even the queue line is packed full of amazing animations and stone work. We recently stopped by the attraction and filmed a POV of the queue line, check it out!
Some Fast Facts and Tips…
The ride has five vehicles, each with 72 passengers, making the ride a high capacity machine. In our opinion, the best seat would be on the right side, because that is the side of the Giant Kong animatronic. Kong does not include an Express line as of now, but there is a single rider line (shown in the video above). As of now, there are no lockers and you are indeed permitted to bring loose articles with you on the ride. CLICK HERE TO SEE MORE PHOTOS!
