The Week in Review for Updates on Rougarou at Cedar Point!
So, what was Cedar Point doing this week as they are just 8 weeks away from Opening Day? Or should I say what are they Rougarou-ing! The Point always stays busy with the usual repainting, refurbishing and replacing of different elements of rides and attractions like any good amusement park does. But they are in essence giving us a new roller coaster by booting out, Mantis, the 18 year old stand-up coaster. Phasing out stand-up coasters has been common for Cedar Fair Parks as Cedar Point’s sister park Kings Island closed their legendary King Cobra stand-up coaster in 2001. Mantis had been receiving lackluster marks from guests and changes are being implemented to increase the ridership numbers and guest satisfaction of the coaster. Fun Fact Alert!!!: Mantis was originally going to be called Banshee but due to the negative feedback from the name, it was changed to the name of the bug that can creep you out and make you scream. Fortunately, the Banshee coaster at Kings Island is a smash hit that went off without a hitch! Fans are certain to love the new look, color and feel of the Rougarou coaster when the park opens on May 9th. Let’s dive into [pun intended] the cool updates that were released this week:
The week kicked-off on Monday, March 9th with Cedar Point announcing ways to be the first to ride Rougarou. As the first major initiative in their multi-year deal with the LeBron James Family Foundation, Cedar Point is fielding bids from fans starting at $123.00 to attend the event on Friday, May 8th. Lucky winners will receive cool gear like a Rougarou/LBJ Foundation Commemorative Medallion, a Rougarou baseball hat and two 2 Cedar Point tickets. The bidding is open until Sunday, May 3rd. To register to bid on this cool opportunity, click here and be among the first to ride Cedar Point’s first floorless coaster! As we reported to you last year, Cedar Point partnered with LeBron after his decision to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers last summer. Despite The Point not renaming a coaster after King James (although that would’ve been a sweet name for a ride!), this initiative still hits all points with a much needed coaster refresh and working with 4-time NBA MVP & 2-time World Champion for a charitable cause.
Cedar Point PR Manager, Bryan Edwards posted this tweet showing off the new rougarou logo:
With Tuesday, March 10th bringing fog over Lake Erie area, Cedar Point tweeted this photo of Rougarou lurking through the low-hanging precipitation waiting anxiously of all the prey it’ll make scream!
Also on Tuesday, 19 Action News’ Tiffani Tucker visited The Point to get the latest updates on the park’s forthcoming season. The CBS affiliate in Cleveland, OH posted a video of the tour with Bryan Edwards. Here’s a picture of the shoot that Edwards tweeted:
On Wednesday, March 11th, it was further proof that Twitter is one of the Greatest features on the internet. Cedar Point General Manager Jason McClure tweeted out photos of him milling around Rougarou. The close-up shots are quite spectacular:
Not to be out done, Cedar Point Director of Communications Tony Clark tweeted out his photo of Rougarou one minute later with the caption:
“Should we open the gates? #Rougarou”
Friday, March 13th was when Cedar Point celebrated Friday the 13th in grand style. The park posting a photo on Instagram showing the first trains of the floorless coaster being lowered onto the track! Rougarou’s first frights are getting closer & closer!
The best part of the whole week was when The Point posted a video on their Facebook page that had dramatic music playing while showing the trains being lifted on the Rougarou track. Click here to watch!
It was a nice slice of anticipation for the revamped coaster that’ll certainly have increased ridership and interest from guests for years to come. It is hard to believe that the coaster will be Cedar Point’s first ever floorless coaster in the park’s 145 year history, but it’ll be another smash hit for coaster lovers to get addicted to.
You know to keep it locked on our social media channels for the latest updates on Cedar Point & Rougarou, right!?!? Ok, just checking.
