Kennywood Transforms into Phantom Fright Nights For 14th Year of Terror

The worst nightmares always keep coming back… Like the undead crawling out of their graves, Phantom Fright Nights is back at Kennywood in Pittsburgh, PA! The award-winning Phantom Fright Nights event creeps into Kennywood starting Friday, October 2. The Pittsburgh-area amusement park transforms into the ultimate Halloween experience with haunted mazes, scare zones filled with costumed actors, and dark rides!

Celebrating 14 terrifying years, Kennywood’s transformation into Phantom Fright Nights is near completion for another horrifying Halloween season! Phantom Fright Nights will be open every Friday and Saturday in October – 6:00pm to 12:00am PLUS a bonus night on Sunday, October 11 – 6:00pm to 11:00pm. The Sunday date gives guests a chance to attend that are busy on Friday and Saturday nights!

New this year for Phantom Fright Nights is Friday the 13TH™ 4-D. Kennywood’s new 4-D Theater becomes CAMP Crystal Lake, as Jason Voorhees dons his hockey mask for a thrilling 13-minute chase complete with bone-chilling special effects.

Kennywood Director of Ride Operations Marie Ruby, the mastermind behind Phantom Fright Nights said “Friday the 13TH™ 4-D brings a brand-new element to Phantom Fright Nights. Jason is an iconic figure in scaring and he’ll fit in perfectly, giving visitors an experience that can’t be found anywhere else.”

Amusement Today, an amusement industry publication, has taken notice of the attraction’s attention to detail and named Phantom Fright Nights “One of the Best Halloween Events” with the annual Golden Ticket Awards readers’ poll. In addition, The parks classic Noah’s Ark received top honors for the 6th year in a row, and received a Golden Ticket Award for the Best Walk-Through Attraction in the World.

Returning for its first full season is the Ark in the Dark haunt. For an extra fee, guests can enter a pitch-black Noah’s Ark two by two and try to find their way out alive! From 11pm to 12am, guests will have the unique opportunity to experience Ark in the Dark where the lights go out and something sinister takes over. A maximum of 2 people at a time will venture into an unknown experience and attempt to survive in complete darkness, unaware of what may or may not be waiting. Tickets can be purchased online here for $10 per person or $13 for two. Ark in the Dark will have a limit of only 13 pairs of brave souls each evening.

For those unable to handle Ark in the Dark, the Phantom has been known to lure guest into many other haunts and scare zones including: Biofear, Villa of the Vampires, Kennyville Cemetery, Mortem Manor, Voodoo Bayou, and more. In addition, 17 Kennywood thrill rides will be transformed into a sinister alter ego, and the rest of the park will be covered with 1,000 gallons of fog fluid, 10,000 plus Halloween lights, and more than 300 ghouls, vampires and other creatures of the night!

After you dine, meet your favorite (or most feared) Fright Nights characters and get an early screening of the new Friday the 13th 4-D Experience movie. Dinner begins at 4 p.m. and continues until Fright Nights begins at 6 p.m. Screenings of Friday the 13th 4-D begin at 5 p.m.

There’s a few special rules to take note of for Phantom Fright Nights. No food or beverages may be brought into the Park. Halloween masks, make-up, and costumes are not permitted.
