Pittsburgh Zoo Offering Free Admission For 12 Days In November
The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium will be offering guests completely free admission Nov. 18 through Nov. 30.
The zoo’s marketing director said the #FreeForAll promotion is a way for the zoo to give thanks to its visitors for all of their support throughout the year.
So, will you see all the animals in the cold? The zoo says:
“Depending on the temperatures, some warm-weather animals, like those in the African savanna and Jungle Odyssey, may not be out when temperatures dip below 50. Many of them, like elephants and cheetahs, still have indoor viewing areas, so you can see them all year even if they don’t like the cold!
All reptiles will be indoors for the season (we have snakes and lizards inside the Worlds of Discovery building on exhibit all year round but our larger reptiles will be off exhibit)”.
One of our favorite things to visit at the zoo is the PPG Aquarium. Even when it’s cold outside, the warm PPG Aquarium offers some amazing views and interactions with all sorts of reptiles and sealife.
Visitors will also be able to visit the zoo’s newest neighborhood; Jungle Odyssey. Ocelots, fossas, capybaras, anteaters, and even a pygmy hippo will intrigue visitors and immerse them in the world of dense forests!
Jungle odyssey is the second phase of a four phase expansion project known as “Top of the World”.
- Phase 1: Hospital and The Islands (opened June 2015)
- Phase 2: Jungle Odyssey and zip lines (opened May 2017)
- Phase 3: Conservation solarium, which will offer a reptile building, plus an all new orangutan exhibit and a Komodo dragon exhibit.
- Phase 4: The Mountains, which will include new habitats for the zoo’s snow leopards and Andean bears aka spectacled bears, and possibly more species.
Young visitors can also meet animals from folktales during the zoos Wildlife Academy. Caretakers will teach visitors about creatures from “The Tortoise and the Hare” at 10 a.m. Nov. 18 and 19 and “Five Little Monkeys” at 10 a.m. Nov. 30.
The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. everyday. *The Zoo will be closed on November 23, 2017 for the Thanksgiving holiday, so families will have to find another way to walk off those Thanksgiving dinners 🙂
